POSEIDON

The Horizon Europe POSEIDON project, comprises ten partners from Europe, Canada and Asia, in order to exploit the recent advances in Earth Observation and Artificial Intelligence, and creates solutions for supporting and strengthening the implementation of the MARPOL regulatory framework, the Ship-Sourced Pollution Directive and the European Union Environmental Crime Directive. The project started up June 2026 and will run for 3 years.

  • Our first presentation

    Eirik Langeland from Clean Oceans had the pleasure of presenting the project at Forum for framtidas oljevern 2026, a professional forum hosted by the Norwegian Coastal Administration.

    Around 75 participants attended, representing equipment manufacturers, oil producers, intermunicipal emergency response organisations, public authorities and private response actors.

  • Kick off

    The POSEIDON project has officially launched! On 4th of July, the consortium met in Oslo to kick off the project. An enthusiastic group joined the meeting, both in person and digital. We are looking forward to work with this project to reach results that may change the way we protect our oceans.

  • EU Grants POSEIDON

    We are happy to announce that the EU has granted the POSEIDON Projcet. This 5M EUR 3-year project with 10 partners leverages optical and radar-based satellite technology for improving services for identifying oil spills, detecting oil spills in sea ice conditions and detecting and identifying chemicals, sewage, garbage, emissions and other pollutants released by ships at sea.
